Making the most of your portrait session at Jeannine's...
The goal of any fine portrait...is to direct the viewer's attention to the face or faces in the portrait. Simple long sleeve garments in medium tones of browns, rust, burgundy, green or blue are pleasing choices when photographed against a dark background. Children are quite different. Any color background works well... White is the most popular with children. If you want something different, just let me know.
Proper clothing allows the face to dominate the portrait. All the other elements should be secondary.
In a family group, proper clothing coordination is critical. When decorating a home a major concern is to coordinating the colors and tones of the walls, carpet, draperies and furniture. This kind of coordination is necessary when selecting clothing for a group portrait. Choose clothing in the same tonal ranges so that no single member stands out because the clothing is too light or too bright as compared to the rest of the group. Think of where you are planning on displaying your portrait. Do the clothes fit the room you are planning on displaying the portrait ?
As a
general rule :
Light clothing does "add pounds" to a persons appearance.
Dark clothing does "subtract pounds" from a persons appearance.
If you have a round or chubby face, avoid turtle neck tops. Select tops with
a V neck or open collar. Just doing this will take pounds off of your
appearance.
Do avoid
wide stripes, bold prints or tight fitting tops that pucker at waist when you
are in a
seated position. Double Breasted Suits are best left unbuttoned for a seated
pose.
Avoid Khaki Pants in a full length family portrait. They wrinkle easily,
and you will appear to have slept in your clothes.
Planning your portrait will help me create an artwork of a very personal nature. As a decorative focal point in your home or office, it will serve as a reflection of your good taste, as well as a most appropriate expression of your personal style.
